For Leon Smith Publishing and its imprints (YouSpeakIt Books, Babypie Publishing), manage team of six to ten editors: hire, train, assign and review their work, provide feedback. Create systems for work flow, develop and maintain stylesheet, communicate with authors. Advise owners of potential issues and suggested solutions (e.g., plagiarized texts, placement of graphics).

Working with individuals, publishers, and organizations to craft clear, powerful content. Editing manager for Leon Smith Publishing and imprints since 2015. Clients include Shelburne Farms (Healthy Neighborhoods, Healthy Kids; A Park for Every Classroom; New School Cuisine), 1984 Publishing, and individuals (projects ranging from a young adult novel, to web content and promotional materials for a small business, to articles for freelance author published in Scientific American and Discover magazines). Using Chicago Manual of Style, AP, and APA guides. Comfortable working electronically or in hard copy.

 

Editor, Connect                                                                                                                                                       2001–2012

Connect magazine ran for twenty-five years as a journal of teachers’ innovations in K–8 science, math, and technology. As editor, I conducted author searches; copy edited articles; created content, including articles, photos, and illustrations; designed flow of each issue and the arc of the publishing year; fact-checked; collaborated with authors, graphic artist, proofreader, and printers; created and maintained web content, including lesson plans and blog. Began as associate editor; promoted to editor in 2007.
